Conducive soil and climate

The vineyard spreads out over 27 communes, on the hills running alongside the Layon, a tributary from the Loire left bank. It is located in the south east of Massif Armoricain, mainly made of schist. These formations give some dark shallow soils and form the  <Anjou Noir> ,The define soils match with some well exposed and ventilated hills that stimulate the earliness of the vegetation and allow the obtain over matured harvests

A tempered oceanic climate gives some mild and rainy winters as well as a weak thermal amplitude

 

The history of Coteaux du Layon

Layon white wines have made Anjou vineyards renown right from the Middle ages. From 1579, merchants started trading with the north of Europe, focused on the Layon and developed these wines < pour la mer > (for the sea) because of their ability to travel and handle the tax in order to go through Britany to Nantes’ port

 

Coteaux du Layon wines

Mysterious and charming alchemy between Anjou hills, Chenin Blanc and wine-growers. Perfect balanced wines, their sweetness brings emotion and festive time for gastronomy lovers. This wine can be tasted after at least 3 years of aging. It has a fruity aroma coming mainly from white flesh fruit such as pear, quince or peach; following then by some floral scents from white flowers such as   acacia and rose

 

Harmony between dish and exceptional wines

Enjoy it as an aperitif with the traditional foie gras but also with some more surprising food pairings such as salmon, fresh goat cheese, stir fried Saint Jacques or even a roasted pear with honey and blue cheese.
